I was in my feels today. So I did my first ever solo shunt on a child and I remember being exhausted post call, post surgery, 3pm leaving the hospital. All I could think about when I got home was my patient.
So I got to the ward today. I asked the mum how the baby was #Thread
The mum “ my baby is doing a lot better Dr, my baby is even playing. On Saturday he didn’t want to sleep, was busy laughing”
When I looked at the little one his eyes, the sunsetting eyes he had, had improved. His vertical gaze is no longer limited.
He was laughing, playing with mummy. My heart https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😫" title="Müdes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Müdes Gesicht">. I proceeded to expose the wound https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🥰" title="Smiling face with 3 hearts" aria-label="Emoji: Smiling face with 3 hearts">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😍" title="Lächelndes Gesicht mit herzförmigen Augen" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht mit herzförmigen Augen">.I couldn’t believe I did that. All around the consultant was happy with my work but what took the cup for me,and what I’ll always hold close to my heart is that face, that smile, that laughter.
