Now that the weekend is over, it’s time for some #FMStreamerShowdown thoughts!

I’ll be going pretty in depth so strap on your seatbelts.

1/x
My biggest takeaway is that the smaller pool of players (not necessarily the budget), was the single best thing about season 7. Forcing the streamers to fight over limited options made the draft strategy 10 times more exciting, and it really rewarded those who prepped well.

2/x
Realizing certain things (i.e. there were not 9 quality strikers in the affordable price range), was very important to having a successful draft. When the first few went, some people adapted well (Clayts and Ben revamped their budgets to spend up on ST)...

3/x
while some people did not (Jordan Ayew and Dele Alli... nope). I’m focusing on the strikers here, but there was positional scarcity across the board which forces deeper/more questionable picks who turn into unexpected heroes (Coady) or horrible flops (Karius, Romero).

4/x
A lot of people are calling for lower leagues or even smaller budgets to recreate this positional scarcity, but I don’t think that’s the answer. Most of the fans want to recognize the players, that’s why we can really only go this cheap in the Premier League. HOWEVER...

5/x
I think you can recreate the same excitement and scarcity WHILE keeping the recognizable names by finding other ways to lower the player pool. I’m hoping FM21 makes databases easier (Please SI), but imagine one that only has players in the Euros? Champions League Knockouts?

6/x
The spinny wheel at the end of the draft was a fun addition, but as a massive @claytsfm fan, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a bit annoyed watching 70m Gareth Bale rip us apart in the semis while 19m Reguillon just stood and watched in his left back spot. That being said...

7/x
The #FMStreamerShowdown is a tournament that (correctly) puts entertainment first and foremost, and I’d be an even bigger liar if I said that the spinny wheel didn’t add a lot of entertainment. I hope we see more things like this in the future.

8/x
I’ll close this out by saying that the #FMStreamerShowdown has morphed into something incredible. Comparing the product from season 1 to season 7 is like night and day. It’s easy to see that there is so much work going on behind the scenes to make such a fantastic product.
