1/ I feel like a switch flipped and all of a sudden MANY people are job hunting in tech. Here are a few recruiting tips, based on my experience from @Dropbox and @IndexVentures.

First -- don& #39;t ask which companies are hiring; ask which companies are growing the fastest.https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👇" title="RĂŒckhand Zeigefinger nach unten" aria-label="Emoji: RĂŒckhand Zeigefinger nach unten">
2/ Of course -- the well-beaten quote, “If you& #39;re offered a seat on a https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🚀" title="Rakete" aria-label="Emoji: Rakete">, don& #39;t ask what seat.”

Trite, but the reality is:

A successful company gives you a https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😇" title="LĂ€chelndes Gesicht mit Heiligenschein" aria-label="Emoji: LĂ€chelndes Gesicht mit Heiligenschein">
Room for upward growth https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="📈" title="Tabelle mit AufwĂ€rtstrend" aria-label="Emoji: Tabelle mit AufwĂ€rtstrend">
Strong network https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ§‘â€đŸ€â€đŸ§‘" title="Leute halten HĂ€ndchen" aria-label="Emoji: Leute halten HĂ€ndchen">

Creates highest option value for future jobs at any stage.
3/ When I moved from Wall Street to Dropbox in 2013, I actually had no idea what my official title or role was -- just that the people who interviewed me were super smart + team growing 4x YoY.

Every 3 months, felt like a different role (& company). Opened so many doors.
4/ A great place to find companies at this stage is the highly underrated @Wealthfront Career Launching Company List from @arachleff. Not perfect, but a nice pre-vetted list as a starting place, updated every year.

5/ Once you have a target list, start getting in touch -- warm intros > cold outreach, but don’t underestimate a thoughtful note on Linkedin.

Look for recs, but don& #39;t be limited by them - recs always lag roles in fast-growing cos. Start meeting people and see where it leads.
6/ VCs can help you vet the landscape further.

If you don’t know investors, reach out cold or through mutual connections -- funds want to meet great people (a key pillar of portfolio support) and often have functions dedicated to talent.

BUT...
7/ Talk to multiple funds so you can triangulate on advice -- there’s a tendency to push portfolio companies in conversations https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😔" title="Nachdenkliches Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Nachdenkliches Gesicht"> so take leads with a grain of salt.

Despite potential bias, funds have all sorts of info on companies that you won’t get elsewhere.
8/ As a VC, this is one thing about the job that surprised me - I spend 20% of my time recruiting.

Somebody shared a reference on me recently with a founder I& #39;ve worked with for years and he highlighted a https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🔑" title="SchlĂŒssel" aria-label="Emoji: SchlĂŒssel"> hire I helped place 4 years ago. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž" title="Achselzuckender Mann" aria-label="Emoji: Achselzuckender Mann">

Hiring matters a lot.
9/ Also -- don’t get hung up on titles.

One company’s VP is another company’s IC.

Focus more on the set of responsibilities you will have in the role:

Will you own a revenue target?
Have the resourcing you need?
Report into the right leader?
Latitude to hire?
10/ When you get an offer -- NEGOTIATE.

It’s uncomfortable, but better to ask now than regret later.

It’s not uncommon to see comp offers up 20-30% from the starting point, especially if you work both cash and equity levers.

Advocate for yourself! https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ€©" title="Vom Star geblendet" aria-label="Emoji: Vom Star geblendet">
11/ Finally, keep a high bar. The job market is nauseatingly dynamic, and if the perfect opportunity isn’t available right now it may emerge faster than you expect.

Good luck!!!
