Was talking about this with @BoxingBusch on Heavy Hands, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that Yoel specifically is an absolutely terrible analysis benchmark because he& #39;s such a strategic blank slate. https://twitter.com/JackSlackMMA/status/1310143414890106880">https://twitter.com/JackSlack...
Rather than controlling or cutting apart his opponent& #39;s approach, he literally allows opponents to execute whichever game they want, then tries to smash it wholesale.
There are a lot of aggressive fighters who have fought their "best" or most idealized fight against Romero for at least some time (Whittaker, Brunson, now Costa, even Rockhold looked technically sharper and more focused).
"If they can execute against Yoel they should be able to also execute against this less gifted or less physical opponent" - but there& #39;s the kicker. While we measure almost everyone else on stuff like directionality, its simply not something his opponents need to overcome.
