I played 4 seasons of Division 1 college football
Here is what it taught me about investing

Before I explain the 4 lessons that football taught me about investing, here is some proof that I played
(I was a long snapper, we didn’t get many photo opportunities lol)

(I was a long snapper, we didn’t get many photo opportunities lol)
Lesson #1:
You can’t control what the refs call
If the refs call a holding, then it’s a 10 yard penalty
Whether or not it truly was a holding call, if the refs call it then yardage is taken away
What does this teach us about investing?
You can’t control what the refs call

What does this teach us about investing?
With your investment portfolio, you cannot control outside factors
You can only control WHAT your invested in and WHEN you decided to buy/sell
Covid-19? Can’t control that
BUT
You can control if you buy stocks that are still undervalued
CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL
You can only control WHAT your invested in and WHEN you decided to buy/sell

Covid-19? Can’t control that
BUT
You can control if you buy stocks that are still undervalued

CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL

Lesson #2:
During our conditioning
tests, if you didn’t touch the line or cut corners, you were required to redo it
It didn’t matter if you were on rep #1 or the last rep
If you cheated, you started back at ZERO
During our conditioning

It didn’t matter if you were on rep #1 or the last rep
If you cheated, you started back at ZERO

With Decade Investing, if you try to cut corners and try a get rich quick scheme, it will come back to bite you in the tail
You may win in the short term and not get caught
BUT
If you consistently do it, it will hinder your growth, in my opinion
DO NOT CUT CORNERS

DO NOT CUT CORNERS

Lesson #3:
In college we played 12 games... that is a LONG season
You win some
, you lose some
BUT
All that matters is having a winning season to make a bowl game
You may lose one week, but you CAN’T give up

BUT

You may lose one week, but you CAN’T give up
With Decade Investing, who cares about the day to day fluctuations of the market
WE are in this for the long term
If we are
for the day/week/month, WHO CARES?
DON’T SELL
All that matters is our money is worth more (hopefully 8%+ YoY) by the time we retire

WE are in this for the long term
If we are

DON’T SELL

All that matters is our money is worth more (hopefully 8%+ YoY) by the time we retire

Lesson #4:
In football, we NEVER played an opponent without watching hours and hours of film
We would spend a whole week before a game analyzing and breaking down our opponents
All aspects of the game we would watch!
You would NEVER go into a game without watching film!

When it comes to dividend investing (less important with index funds)
You NEVER should invest into a company without doing your research
What’s the yield?
What’s the payout ratio?
What’s the dividend growth?
You MUST “watch film” on potential stocks to invest in
