When I first decided to start #BlackInMicro Week, I mostly just wanted to see other virologists and keke with my friends. But as I really sat down to think about it, I thought about all the ideas I had during my Ph.D. about having a Black Microbiology Association much like NSBE &
NSBP. Given that were (and still are) in a pandemic, I thought we had an obligation to communicate to the public in addition to within the scientific community. I also thought that it would be the perfect time to build those relationships with the black community,
so that we existed and could be a source of accurate information in a world where there is SO MUCH disinformation spreading. As I got to know my fellow organizers and see their talents and skills on full display I KNEW that all of that would be possible
and that #BlackInMicro week would be phenomenal. So, please take the time this week to take in the greatness, the black excellence, the information, and the overall ambiance and celebration of Black In Micro.
And make sure to let all the organizers know what a great job that they have done because we truly would not/could not be here today without them. Give them their flowers!
