He introduced the term color #spectrum and, although the spectrum appears continuous with no distinct boundaries between colors, he subdivided it into 7 colors.

#Newton chose the number #seven because that number reflects the ancient Greek belief that it is a mystical number, correlated with seven "wandering stars", seven days of the week, and a quarter of the time between two full #moons.
