1/2. If you want to make sense of 2020, think of it this way. We are living through the collapse of political liberalism. Classical liberalism upheld human rights & freedom of speech, association, religion, etc. As the centre collapses the totalitarian Left moves into the vacuum.

2/4. Why is liberalism collapsing? Because it has depended, in ways most liberals refuse to acknowledge, on the strength of the Xian moral consensus in society. Western lib. democracy is not the 'natural' or 'rational' state of humanity. Historically, it is a total miracle.

3/4. Liberal tolerance in the past 200 years has been possible only b/c of the Evangelical revivals in the Anglo-sphere from the 1730's on. Many liberals are coming to see this (J. Peterson, D. Murray, D. Rubin, etc.). It is time for conservative Protestants to grasp this point.

4/4. The Christian Church does not depend on the viability of Western culture, but the future of Western culture depends on the viability of the church in the West.
