If intl Unis are following the trends, the best way to keep attracting foreign students, especially from Africa is to develop partnerships with foreign students already in their schools and/or attract these students and find ways to retain them so they can bring others.
There is a Uni in The Netherlands whose had their first set of International students in 2019, among them, a Nigerian. Of course, the entire thing was a mess (there were some good sides) from start to finish as the Uni was clearly not ready.
Another Nigerian was trying to attend in school in 2020 and despite all the interviews and assurances from the admissions committee, insisted on speaking to the only Nigerian in the school before making a commitment. The school was confused, what could this conversation be for?
Eventually, the school summoned their Nigerian student and after a brief convo between the current and the intending student, the intending one withdrew her application and decided the school was unsuitable. This is just ONE example.
The school was still baffled about the content of the conversation but if that Uni is smart, they would find a way to engage their Nigerian student, fix whatever is wrong/ broken in their system and retain the Nigerian in their intl student office/ desk.
That is if they are serious about enrolling more Nigerian/ African students sha. This problem is not unique to The Netherlands. In a lot of Unis across the world, even in northern Cyprus, it is the same.
