ps: this is a general overview n i’m gonna try cover as much stuff as possible but feel free to add anything u feel i missed/forgot !!
born on the 7th of july, 1994 ( a fellow cancer), in new south wales, aus, ashton is the eldest of anne-marrie irwin, n is half-siblings w lauren n harry dawkins
ashton graduated from richmond high school & had taken subjects related to art & music during school, and as (we’ve recently discovered) used to dance till the age of 12. been an artist since day one basically.
prior to being in 5sos, he was part of a band called ‘swallow the goldfish’ back in high school. here’s a link to one of their covers and i’ll notice how blond he actually is but we’ll take ab that later on

5sos was obv based in aus & they’d regularly post yt covers till one day louis of 1D tweeted a link of one of them, hence they moved to london, signed and joined 1D on their ‘take me home’ & ‘on the road again’ as their opening act.
ashton was n continues to be v good friends w members of 1D, especially harry & niall.
all during which, their first album was being written n recorded to be realized in 2014, w ashton writing on many songs & having some solo demos that we still cry over today. here’s a don’t stop ashton demo that is just a++
something to note is that all throughout his career, he’s always been a vital part of the writing+recording process. so so many 5sos songs wouldn’t sound the way they do w/o his vocals.
from a musical stand point, his backing vocals are just out of this world, his drumming is exquisite n he has taken it upon himself to learn other instruments as well. u might see some trumpet/saxophone jokes around so that’s why lmao
always known to be the rock of this group and to us fans, he was a part of creating ‘the new broken scene’ coming w the release of sgfg, 5sos’ 2nd studio album (which superbloom will have the same release date as :D).

after years of touring, 5sos took a long hiatus in 2017, which ashton described as extremely important to recharge as individuals and artists and just reflect on his journey.
he had later revealed that during said time he had come to face issues that he never rlly had the time to address and mainly alcoholism; how it’s affected him since an early age and how it’s been fuel for him to become better and healthier both physically and mentally.
one thing u should know ab him is that he takes absolutely any situation and sees the silver lining in it n this album, superbloom, is the result of years of hurting then healing n learning how to cope. he is truly one of the strongest ppl there are ever.
not only was it a time for self-reflection, he also took the chance to work more w other artists, collaborated w so many others and even played live shows w other bands/solo artists. he’s always on the move n it shows how much he rlly loves music n what he does. here’s a lil clip

this thread is already v long but it def goes w/o saying that he is a Performer. he always puts on the best shows ever n is a part of putting together their shows’ themes. a absolute beast on the drums n on vocals. there isn’t anything he can’t do
after the release of CALM this year n with this pandemic happening, we’ve all seen that he’s taken that time to write n produce his debut album, superbloom, which addresses issues that aren’t rlly spoken about. it’s his first endeavor as a solo artist.
