A Thread of My Opinion On "Farmers Bill"👇👇
The Farmer Bills Proposed and Passed by The Government is Creating a Tension Among Farmers. They are Coming onto the Streets Opposing The Bill.Angry and worried farmer groups see them as unfair and exploitative Why is the Rage? 1/n
One of the biggest changes in this Bill is that farmers will be allowed to sell their produce at a market price directly to the Corporates. Most Indian farmers,at present, sell the majority of their produce at govt-controlled wholesale markets or mandis at assured Prices. 2/n
The Bill also allows private buyers to hoard essential commodities for future sales, which only government-authorised agents could do earlier. Now the Farmer can Enter into a Contract and Tailor his Agri Produce according to the Wishes of His Private Buyer. 3/n
The Bill Also Allows Farmers to Sell their Produce Anywhere Within the Country. The reforms will loosen rules around sale, pricing and storage of farm produce - rules that have protected India's farmers from the free market for decades. 4/n
On the Surface this Bill Seems Pretty Good For the Farmers👨‍🌾 Who are Suffering at the Hands of Middleman, Right? If so, Why would the Farmers would Come to Streets amidst this Pandemic Opposing The Bill? It's Because They Don't Want to Be the Slaves of Corporates! 5/n
The contract deals are financially attractive but because there are so many terms and conditions attached, it is difficult for an Uneducated farmer to understand cope with hidden Exploitative terms. In turn they become the slaves of the company, once they Enter into Contracts. 6/n
The Private Companies Buy agri Products which are up to their High Quality Grading. Farmers and the Lands are Pressurized to get desired quality of the agri Produce with Overuse of Fertilizers and Pesticides. Once the Soil Loses its Fertility, Farmer is abandoned of course. 7/n
My uncle Grows eggplant🍆 and mainly Sells For Private Marts like Reliance. While Grading, Half of the Produce is Rejected as Those Marts Desire Perfect Speckless High Quality Veggies with Perfect Color, Size, Texture. So they Sell Half the rejected Produce at Weekly Santhe.8/n
My Neighbour farmer is distributing The Ridge gourd, rejected while Grading by the Private veggie Market, to Others. But those Veggies look Perfectly fresh and good, except that they have slightly bent. Those Veggies are rejected by the Private vegetable buying Firm. 9/n
This is not just the Story of One Farmer but Most of The Farmers undergo this. What About Those Farmers Who Can't Meet The High Quality Demands of the Corporates, What Should They Do With Their Produce? What about those Farmers who have small piece of land? 10/n
The Farmers Fear That the Bills are just the beginning of Something Big. MSPs of Certain goods may be abolished.
The problem with the bills is that they are putting the farmers into the hands of the private players without any safeguards and without any regulations.11/n
We all Know how Money minded are these Corporates. If The Private Sector Takes hold of Agriculture and Monopolise it. There is no Going Back. Farmers may have to become Contact labours at the Farm they Once owned. Hence armers are Doomed.12/n
There are a lot of problems in the APMC mandi system, which require reforms. Nobody is denying that. But reforming the APMC mandi doesn’t mean you push the farmers from one set of middlemen to another set of middlemen. It is not the only solution for agriculture. 13/n
Don't Fool Farmers by Telling them Privatization is the Only Solution for their problems.Agricultural Sector needs Government Intervention to Certain Extent.Taking Care of The Backbone of the Country is the duty of the Govt.
