May do a couple of posts on things to do in #Cardiff during #locallockdown. Number 1 - visit #CardiffBay and the #cardiffbaywetlands
Number 2 - take a stroll around #cefnonnpark in Lisvane. It's a grade 2 listed historic park with a magnificent collection of native and exotic trees. Loads of squirrels, dragonflies and birds. Postcode CF14 0EP #cardiff #locallocdown #cardifflocallockdown
Number 3 - Hop back in history and visit some of #Cardiff's gardens - Alexandra Gardens CF10 3NB, Grange Gardens CF11 7BW, Gorsedd Gardens CF10 3NP and Friary Gardens CF10 3HH - they are full of beautiful statues and monuments #Cardiff #locallockdown #cardifflocallockdown
Number 4 - explore #GrangemoorPark, which rises 66 ft above the River Ely and surrounding area and has brilliant panoramic views over south #Cardiff. It's choc full of wildlife and backs on to a river walk. Find the entrance opposite McDonalds - CF11 0JR #cardifflocallockdown
Number 5 - visit the place where Superman crashed down to earth (that's right, it's not Smallville, it's #SplottBeach!). A wild mix of industrial & natural, this landscape can be both bleak & beautiful at the same time. Who knows what (or who) you will find! #cardifflocallockdown
Number 6 - right on the north edge of the #Cardiff is the beautiful canal trail @forestfarmuk where you can find ducks doing ballet, herons, jays, robins, dragonflies galore and it's a great place to walk the doggo. Park up just past ASDA Coryton roundabout #cardifflocallockdown
Number 7 - Enjoy the serenity of Roath Park (we've all seen the lake before, and it sure is purrdy), but also make sure you visit the botanic gardens in the greenhouse and feed the Koi Carp and the terrapins. It's great for a warm on a chilly day! #cardifflocallockdown
Number 8 - take a stroll down the towpath next to Lamby Way tip and find your way to the sea! On the way you may find swans, coots, moorhens, blue tits, reed buntings, robins finches, herons and the odd cormorant. Keep it litter free folks, if you visit. #cardifflocallockdown
Number 9 - surprised it's not made an appearance before, but here it is; beautiful Bute Park. Head to the field behind the castle, spread out a picnic basket & imagine you're in medieval times, feasting & jousting! (Please don't, the park wardens may object) #cardifflocallockdown
Number 10 - Hendre Lake is beautiful and poignant with wildlife and memorials to the great war. A favourite for birdwatching and fishing, Hendre Lake Park is 143 acres of land St Mellons teeming with wildlife and fish - CF3 0RH - #cardifflocallockdown
Number 11 - @StFagans_Museum. An amazing asset in #Cardiff. I sometimes forget just how beautiful the grounds are - plus you can see traditional Welsh, incredibly small, houses (well, not for me - the five-foot-nothing woman fears not the low ceiling). #cardifflocallockdown
Number 12 - Cathays Cemetery is beautiful at this time of year. Found out it’s the third largest cemetery in the UK. Saw plenty of mushrooms, squirrels and a woodpecker too during my last visit. It's a tranquil spot in the middle of a busy part of town. #cardifflocallockdown
Number 13 - OK, hands up, who knew that there was an Iron Age hillfort in #Cardiff? There blooming well is, and the @CAERHeritage project wants you all to know about it! The site is an archaeological treasure and home to St Mary the Virgin Church - CF5 5NA - #cardifflocallockdown
Number 14 - Parc Tredelerch is a little-known gem just west of Tesco Pengam Green. Turn left instead of right at Lamby Way tip roundabout and you have a wonderful wildlife haven with a lake teeming with fish and a beautiful walkway #cardifflocalloackdown
Number 15 - our little stretch of the @WalesCoastPath which starts in #Splott and goes all the way to #Newport. It also has a little-known beach, if you head right at the end of the Lamby Way towpath (see number 8) #cardifflocallockdown
Number 16 - one for the bargain hunters amongst us (i.e. all of us!) - the amazing treasure trove of Cardiff Indoor Flea Market is open on weekends and is chock full of goodies. Be a good bargain hunter and wear a mask!
CF24 2QS @CardiffFlea #cardifflocallockdown #Tremorfa
Number 17 - walk the rivers. We're so lucky in Cardiff, we have three rivers that flow down through our fair city (the Taff, the Ely and the Rhymney) and there's lots to see along their windy paths, including art, wildlife and boats! Here they are in order #cardifflocalloackdown
Number 18 - visit the one and only Ianto's Shrine in #cardiffbay. For those not in the know, this is a shrine to #Torchwood character Ianto Jones who met a poignant end in the much-loved sci-fi series & has fanmail delivered from all over the globe! #cardifflocallockdown
Number 19 - set in the ancient beech woods of Fforest Fawr, Castell Coch is Cardiff's 13th century fairytale castle. Beautiful inside and out, it's well worth a visit (and the surrounding walks are spectacular). Open Wednesday to Sunday #cardifflocallockdown
Number 20 - The Howardian Local Nature Reserve is 32 acres in the lower Rhymney valley in Penylan and is a maze of creepy woodland walks with lots of birds and wildlife. The entrance is tricky to find (head to the very end of Hammond Way CF23 9DP) #cardifflocallockdown
