Rahul Tewatia was brilliant in yesterday's match! one of the greatest IPL matches of all time. I have a #RahulTewatia story to share, a story of what could have been! This was the year 2016-17 and I was working in a Public Sector Bank. The Bank was recruiting for its teams (1/n)
..including cricket. I was asked to work on the recruitment process. We received applications from across the country, mostly of Ranji and U-19 cricketers. One application caught my eye, in the achievements column: Played IPL for Rajasthan Royals name..:Rahul Tewatia! (2/n)
I was surprised, he was the only one on our list who had played IPL! I immediately double-checked the name & stats and the details matched. We did our due diligence and shortlisted him for the interview and forwarded him the interview call letter...(3/n)
Our interview panel had ex-India players who worked with us. All the applicants arrived for their respective slots and the process began. Rahul Tewatia never turned up! We were disappointed as the bank missed a good player, but different things were laid out for the man..(4/n)
At that time, he had a bad outing with RR and didn't get a chance for a few years. Maybe he was disillusioned with the setup and wanted secure pastures. Maybe somebody else filled it on his behalf, hoping at least a govt job, that was the easy route, but he didn't take it. (5/n)
The IPL is tough, but it has given opportunities for so many young Indian talents. Tewatia didn't give up, he fought on. Played for DC, now back in RR. Hope he gets the attention and opportunities he deserves..the Bank missed out, but cricket and #IPL won here!
