Whitewashing and blackwashing are both bad. Like if you want representation pay more attention to the characters that are representing you! (1)

Like for example, people make killua and gon’s skin colors way darker than they are in canon but I don’t see them paying attention to canary! Like she barely gets any attention in the fandom but she’s the representation that these people want! (2)

And, if I actually ever write a book/manga and people change my characters’ skin tones I’m not having it. Like I’m 100% gonna have some representation for everyone. If someone whitewashes/black washes any of my OCs (or in this case characters in the story) (3)

then they’ll have no excuse to do that. I’m a poc myself and I literally have no idea why people want to change a character’s skin tone. Some people say that they identify better with characters that look like them, and that’s probably true!(4)

but instead of changing a character’s appearance to make them look like you, maybe just make your own OC and/or find a character that looks like you that you can relate to. (5)
