why kpop is all about asian representation - a thread (this also includes the topic of black culture witin kpop industry

lets start off with the term "hallyu" which means korean wave. this phrase refers to the meaning of the spread of south korea culture so
korean television, dramas & shows, korean fashion & style , korean music, korean beauty products, korean food and the list just rapidly follows on. the influences of just korean culture has been GREATLY influenced in not just asia but also other countries too.
south korea culture itself has already taken over a good portion of international fans across the globe. an expert in pop culture has even referred to this with a statement "The East is coming"
as the statement says "east", this points out the significant influence and impact korean culture has internationally but not only that but also other east asian countries too like china & japan.
please do remember that hallyu primarily involves korean culture which also refers to the aesthetic preferences that is seen as a much more virally popular entertainment trend across all nation.
many fail to recognize the root of korean pop culture & their platform with music. the history of korean pop music reaches back to the 19th century, believe it or not a WESTERN missionary named Henry Appenzeller introduced US & british folk songs
that was translated into korean lyrics for the local community/ population.
east asian culture lies in its skills in combining TRADITIONAL elements well specifically towards korean culture with western oriented POP music. this being said the foreign language was expressed and displayed through the melodies, choreography and also with the use of
huge aesthetic visual elements in MUSIC VIDEOS with costumes. the historical and strong cultural aesthetics with deep meanings were being modernized to empower in the eyes of GLOBALLY - MINDED korean youths.
the conceptual art & aesthetics allowed great demands that successfully reaches out to certain companies to pick the best and most competing professionals to shape the multilayered culture. this significantly results in the strong cooperation with western artists that-
draws attention to the east asian culture internationally.
now stating back upon the missionary Henry Appenzeller, one of the songs known as "changga" were collected but during the 1910 - 1950 the japanese occupied banned it to prevent the common people from underdetermining colonial power. the lyrics in changga denounced koreas
colonial oppressors. so during the post- war years american pop music has reached to korean ears as they encountered with each other. the kim sisters (1959) were known as the first success stories. they developed their career by
singing country songs to US troops, who donated rock & roll records to help the group to expand their repertoire. the kim sisters would even leave korea to pursue a music career in america (las vegas). they appeared more than 20 times which hugely influenced
korean music introducing them to a huge american audience for the first time ever. this growing support of the local westerners has effectively resulted korean music more openly to the western side or just in general a different culture.
the range of different east asians exports; giving the enormous influence online of social media have revolutionized the transnational flows of pop culture across the globe.
now lets talk about the cultural appropriation of black culture within the kpop industry. this rather shows the lack of respect some companies and kpop idols have. now this also deeply reflects back upon korea or east asian countries itself with their lack of respect when
it comes to foreigners especially black people. we are all aware of the lack of education east asians countries have especially when it comes to foreigners. tw // racism - examples of these disappointing actions would be the use of n word, blackface and false dreadlocks
the actions behind all these, major or minor it still creates dissonance with kpop amongst their huge international fanbase - who are definitely more culturally knowledgeable and educated.
the kpop industry which has a global reach that borrowed or id rather say "steal" extensively from other cultures. which is why many black fans of kpop are deeply disappointed by certain genres of the kpop groups which imitates their culture without respecting them.
the statement some may commonly hear about how "korea is made for korea and koreans only" or "japan is a country made for japanese only" the same idea implies about how if youre a foreigner to those countries. either you will be praised or disrespected, theres
almost like no in between. unlike countries that are more opened internationally, people born their are more educated on the discrimination against minorities. this is why people would consider kpop idols who grew up in korea (east asian countries) are more so
potentially harmful with their lack of education so ignorance rather than disrespect as their knowledge about other cultures is rarely being educated in east asian cultures.
this also reflects back upon the beauty standards in the kpop industry or in east asian cultures in general. in korean, china & japan their beauty standards is COMPLETELY different to the western society. to simply explain - they desire the ideal body of a TALL, SKINNY and
extremely PALE look. the idea of wanting pale skin, many may think this history reflects back upon a history of racism which the true history.. it does not. it was actually an ideal look determined by social status class rather than racism. - read more in replies
this history developed as far back as the han dynasty. white/ pale skin has been considered a desirable look by chinese women and why? back in their history they believed that the COLOUR of ones skin was an reflection that determined their social status.
having pale skin showed that you were rich enough to relax indoors instead of working outside in the fields which this may result in getting tanned because of the sunlight.
this whole thread isnt even finished, theres so much more to go on about the root of korean pop music and the influences this platform has taken from other cultures. east asian countries for sure has developed a strong concept in asian culture & their own representation.
this doesnt even cover a big portion of how huge kpop has influenced asians themselves and the recognition asians has received. i understand kpop has taken parts of other cultures but please dont take that into consideration thinking it determines the fact kpop
doesnt represent asian culture? rubbing off the asian culture kpop has hugely impacted is not only disrespectful to kpop idols & the industry but also to the asian fans who can right paragraphs and paragraphs on how kpop has impacted them culturally.
and when i say dont rub off the asian culture kpop has hugely impacted. i also want to say no one here is disregarding the fact kpop has been inspired or took off some of the black culture ^ without respecting them.
and as explained in this thread this reflects back upon the lack of education. their intentions were not intentional to harm black people and their culture but sadly the intentions failed. black peoples opinions are completely valid and have all rights to feel anger
seeing kpop idols filled with such ignorance. & as i said in this thread it all comes down to the lack of education east asian countries has. yes this doesnt cover the fact theyre just ignorant but the deep history and root of foreigners within those east asian countries.
