Ok guys, update: I may have been a bit naive with finishing today. I realised i only had covered the major countries of each region and if my point is equalising coverage of women in music via pop, since classical music, rap, rock and electronic coverage is usually all men itd be
A shame if i reenforced the bias towards major music countries of like US,UK, France etc. So im gonna get rid of the number limits and try and find a singer from every country atleast too. (And cover every decade of a major country). So this lil project will probably take a extra
Week, as i have to do right by each country and read up on their industry. I know nothing about whole regions like Central Asia,Central America, Africa, the Pacific Islands etc. every country deserves a massive pop diva and i hope i can look into it and accurately represent that.
I hope i can get a musician from every country above a stereotypical French composer like Debussy, which/who is typically seen as the pinnacle of music and it shouldn’t matter if you’re a folk singer from the Caribbean, every country should be able to be on that level and i hope
I can help facilitate that. I don’t want to take credit, or act like if i promote music that i should be given praise for it. I’m just doing my job as a historian. It’s a shame that countries that are not the US/UK/France/Germany/Italy tend to struggle in getting recognition in
Art. But every historian should actively be researching/documenting music worldwide. I think music has overtaken literature as the primary art. (By the numbers it is anyway). Thus i think a project like this if successful can be a good thing in connecting each other.
It may sound pretentious but it’s good a project like this can be born out of rejecting pretentiousness. Anyway yeah, just my opinion and i can’t wait to show y’all this new project im working on when it’s finished, end thread. 🤗🤗🤗
