ok so i've been watching the discourse from afar for a few days and i really feel empathy for and understand why some people were hurt by the "L is dirty discourse". however here is my take on the subject. TW// will be talking about ableism, transphobia, misogyny, racism (1/?)
everyone has unique experiences and perspectives and intersectional identities that let them see the issue in a different light from other people in the fandom who have different sets of privileges. that's why some people who are asd allies can see that the "L doesnt shower" (2
discourse can be construed as being ableist. however, "L showers and smells good and is clean" is also transphobic, misogynistic, and anti-asian and i hope this thread will shed light on why (3/?)
firstly L is trans-coded. as a trans person this is very important to me. as an FTX trans person he was socialized female when he was younger. as we all know women's appearance and hygiene are scrutinized and controlled by patriarchy, so to not shower is taking back his power (4/
additionally, we know from death note how to read that L is a quarter japanese. in asian culture, cleanliness and physical perfection for women (including makeup) is extremely important. again, for L to not shower is pushing back against the 你弟射了 (confucian patriarchy) (5/?)
for L to refuse to shower and comb his hair and simply put on a new white shirt when the old one starts to show stains, in order to focus on his work, pushes back against misogyny and anti-asian woman sentiment, and is a choice he makes as part of his gender expeession (6/?)
because of these reasons, i as a trans mixed asian person who kins L am personally offended by people accusing L of showering. it's racist, homophobic, transphobic and misogynistic not to mention anti-asian. (7/8)
so please. i'm really triggered by this whole fiasco so i hope i didnt offend anyone just needed to share my two cents. thank u and stream Crush on ao3 (8/8)
