Check it out--although not specifically designed for telehealth, the new Medicare E&M billing changes (effective Jan 1, 2021) make it much easier to perform and bill for telehealth visits. Here is a summary of the key changes relevant to telehealth:

1. Physical exam is not required for billing. You only need to perform a physical exam when clinically appropriate.

2. For time-based billing, there are new ranges. Most importantly, "time" now includes all activites on the same day (e.g., chart review, medical evaluation, ordering tests, documenting, care coordination). It used to only include face-to-face discussion. This is a BIG change.

3. The medical decision making (MDM) component is less complex and easier to navigate.

The AMA has a short course you can take to familiarize yourself with the new changes. Highly recommend it.
