Really worth watching the first 30 seconds of The Comey Rule just to see how they chose to start it
The guy who plays Obama is so incongruously young they should have committed and cast an actual teenager
absolutely furious how good the casting is in this
amy seimetz's check paid for she dies tomorrow, so this show is automatically good
jeff we're gonna need another take on the closeup of your o-face when they first mention clinton's emails
this is a feature-length adaptation of the final shot of The Post
assuming that the page and strzok characters are just scripted to recite the text messages verbatim because this is the most insane dialogue i've ever heard
congratulations to this show's second unit on knowing the difference between the kremlin and st basil's
yes the whole show is really like this
the actor playing flynn is a D+
so far there are only two actors who don't deserve to be in this, holly hunter and jennifer ehle
*cheers voice*
*Ocean's 11 theme*
this episode is really just the greatest hits of the 2016 news cycle
The lighting and makeup here are so awful. Everyone looks like shit. I don't think it's on purpose.
There are actors under 40 on this show who appear to have liver spots
Amy Seimetz's delivery of this dialogue is a Herculean feat
*Succession theme plays*
Holly Hunter as the Georgian deputy AG telling the fictional black audience surrogate how great the country is. Great look.
Famous last words
Pretty interesting screenwriting tactic to have the only woman in the room passionately arguing for Clinton. Wonder what that symbolizes
drink
Drag him
The throwaway moment where some D.C. lizard congratulates Comey on throwing the election is actually pretty gross
I would simply not have thrown the election to Donald Trump
Part 2 is 115 minutes? See you tomorrow guys
Time for night two of 8 Comey Rules
Wow, this is the series finale. That was quick. Hope another network can pick it up.
It's very obvious Ray saw this project as primarily educational. Almost all the dialogue is as expository as possible. Jonathan Banks as James Clapper talking about sanctions and Crimea.
Scoot McNairy as Michael Ian Black as Rod Rosenstein
the repeated somber piano music over the slow-motion footage of the Steele Dossier fantasia is so good
Formally, the editing seems to imply that Comey is obsessed with the pee tape and can't get rid of the intrusive thoughts
losing my mind at the slow pan up on the long tie
we're all wondering that sir
Gleeson's performance is admirably subtle, his heavy breathing is a nice touch
Sort of finely detailed in opposition to the broadness of, say, Baldwin
Pretty upset at how good this scene between Trump and Comey is. Really captures the sense of him just getting on a disgusting tangent he can't get out of
Gleeson speaks in Trump's version of the "broken voice" in Steve Coogan's Michael Caine impression
This thing is less than four hours long altogether and it is still impossible to keep track of all the Russiagate bullshit. "Boss, Michael Flynn had five phone calls with Kislyak!" Who? What?
Why is it a requirement to use this word
Rick dalton pointing.jpg
Comey is sort of an intriguingly awful choice to write a screenplay about because he's too dull and defeated to even be a tragic figure
This is going to be a whole thing I guess
Oh boy
yes. FUCK yes.
The Trump scenes are compelling sort of independent of anything that's happening in the script because he's the only character in this drama who has a personality
They want you to take Comey's dilemma seriously and think of Trump as evil but he's the only interesting person onscreen! This doesn't work on any level!

Even if this is somehow a real guy, it is insanely weird that one of the only POC on this show is an aide in the AG's office who mostly receives speeches from Sally Yates about how sacred the FBI is
another thing we are all wondering sir
T.R. Knight as Reince Priebus is a top 5 casting decision
Fuck off
Showalter would have been a better Comey
was hoping Sessions was just that shot but he actually has dialogue. really unfortunate. bad look
another big problem is that the photography and lighting really expose everyone's pores so he just looks like a guy in terrible old age makeup
Comey Dammit
Sir, you are renowned as an historic dipshit. Please teach me your ways.
The point of this scene seems to be that Rosenstein is a cold fish and envies Comey's personal touch with his staff. I don't think anything in the actual performances suggest that Comey is good with people despite the writing insisting on this
Wow, mise en scene. Dig it.
I'm sorry is this Miguel Ferrer looking motherfucker supposed to be Stephen Miller
Doing a low angle on Trump in this scene is basically the only attempt to dramatize Comey's firing. It presents the facts of their conversations super flatly. God this thing is dull
This is weird, he's delivering the speech from the end of A Beautiful Mind
Hey, another POC with dialogue. Wonder what he's going to say.
this is such a stressful predicament. if only i had the advice of the world's tallest idiot
The Good Fight did a better job dramatizing Russiagate
lol
They keep coming home to this theme of how Comey was truly beloved at the FBI. That makes them all look worse! He sucks!
Maybe Jeff Daniels' worst performance too
Framing device with Rosenstein is baffling. No idea what they think this story is about
They keep talking about Comey's personality but there is no evidence that he has one
I would have done this montage but instead of "fired" "resigned" etc, with the tweets that Trump did about them
Terrible job sir!
The credits play over stacks of emails falling into place in slow motion
That took years off my life
I just realized. We never found out what the Comey Rule was.
