Going to start a thread about something I& #39;ve come across on social media.
Misuse of the block button to create a social media page that fulfils a personal agenda.
Nothing wrong with this if used as intended by creators to keep things positive and remove hate. 1/8
However its worrying the way it can be used to reinforce the integrity of misinformation.
This is a resent experience with a YouTube channel. I& #39;d been commenting for a while correcting people about some dodgy methods used in some of the videos and discussing technical stuff. 2/8
Here& #39;s when I began to realise something was up with the viability of my comments. Turned out I& #39;d been blocked. YouTube gives no notification and fakes posting the comments. Annoying but not the topic of this thread. 3/8
Here& #39;s what was actually visible to the rest of the world. 4/8
Now this obviously isn& #39;t really a big deal, he obviously wants to keep an audience with less scientific knowledge than his own.
Bit of a shame people will believe that the power of a generator can be calculated from open circuit voltage and short circuit current. 5/8
A few days later a video about the conducive ink he sells, basically an advert. In it he is seen scrubbing at a plastic disc in the sink and remarking on how incredibly water and abrasion resistance it is.

A disc with the same conductive ink on the surface in a different video. Something doesn& #39;t look right to me. Ink definitely has a thickness to it.
Of course anyone else spotting the same thing and commenting gets blocked. 7/8
Bit naughty but he just sells a few extra tins of ink to people who aren& #39;t aware.
The problem really comes with the spreading of dangerous misinformation. If it can be given credibility by the careful selection of followers who give the correct responses this is bad. 8/8
