There are a lot of Dem fans on Twitter who simply can't bear to hear about campaign operations and strategy. They were also angry about this stuff in 2016. https://twitter.com/ccat2001/status/1310316667008724993
The reality is that this stuff matters. If you support a candidate you should care about their ground game, messaging, fundraising, and, yes, media/event footprint + where these things stand relative to their rivals.
While some Dems on Twitter freak out at any suggestion Biden and Harris are doing anything less than perfectly, a lot of Dem operatives I know - including some on Biden's team - are worried about strategy.
Now, of course, every campaign has panic and griping. This year everything is ratcheted up too. It will all come out in the wash. In 2016, some of the progressives and allies concerned about Clinton's ops proved right. This year could be the opposite.
The bottom line is, Trump is essentially behind and trying to pull off an electoral college win. This is essentially the campaign version of a trick shot. As he's doing this, it seems he's outpacing Biden in terms of events and activity on the ground.
It's important to note - as I do in coverage consistently - that many of Trump's events have dangerous conditions in violation of local pandemic measures. However, some allied think Biden could do more while remaining responsible either on Zoom or the right settings.
A train tour seems like a solid example of that - and it's targeted in key states. The scenario I just outlined is part of the backdrop for that.
