Saw this trending. It was about a week after Avril’s last birthday that Tori & I met her. I almost bought her a slightly belated card, but we only had like 90 mins notice of the meeting... which would’ve been fine, until I became *very* busy purchasing a Jurassic Park book. >
“Meeting” sounds very formal and possibly misleading for somebody who has lots of actual meetings. This wasn’t law or event related, it was a charity competition meet & greet sort of prize. (ish). >
I can’t be trusted to write cards at the best of times, but I really wasn’t in a particularly good frame of mind for it that week. So the dinosaur-distraction was much needed, even if I didn’t realise it at the time. >
The organisation & random occurrences of that trip made me as anxious as anything. Cancelled flights, tickets without seat numbers, upsettingly average steak, creepy yoda neighbour and of course, me just being awkward socially. But it was still great. >
I’d intended to write a full blog post about how the whole thing came together, because it was weird and funny (in hindsight). I’d decided “one year on” felt appropriate but after the year we’ve had, I’ve lost all sense of time. >
But yeah. This thread isn’t really going anyway, the post was just a strange reminder of how this last year has been. Simultaneously feels a lifetime ago & like it happened last weekend. >
One thing will always be true though - you owe us a better steak, Boston.
