Pretty much everyone who needs to be winning today is losing or tied, aside from the Cardinals, who are ahead of Milwaukee, 4-0, and would clinch the No. 5 seed with a win.

Yankees, Giants, White Sox, Indians, A's, Phillies and Brewers all down. Twins, Reds and Blue Jays tied.
Of course, one could argue some of the higher-ranked teams in the American League don't necessarily want to win. If things hold and Cleveland is the No. 7 seed, it is absolutely preferable to be the No. 3 and face No. 6 Houston than the No. 2 and face Bieber/Carrasco/Plesac.
The wild-card series situation with most regular-season finales nearing their conclusions ...

AL

8 TOR at 1 TBR
7 CLE at 2 MIN (currently tied)
6 HOU at 3 OAK (currently tied)
5 NYY at 4 CWS

NL

8 MIL at 1 LAD
7 CIN at 2 ATL
6 MIA at 3 CHC
5 STL at 4 SDP
Cleveland has taken the lead in Pittsburgh and is now in position to secure the No. 4 seed in the American League, which would mean a wild-card matchup against the New York Yankees.

Shane Bieber vs. Gerrit Cole in Game 1 of a three-game series will work.
