Although it’s meant to be a political attack on Amy Coney Barrett, the shaming of white multiracial adoptive parents is hypocritical and actually damaging for vulnerable children. (1/5)
#1 Science confirms that kids need love and stability from at least one loving committed parent. Studies show that ethnic minority adoptees often thrive in multiracial adoptive families, at the same rate as same-race adoptive parents. (2/5)
#2 Adoptees of all ethnicities struggle with belonging & identity, no matter what race the parents are! If the criticisms of white adoptive parents are seen & heard by these kids, it creates further uncertainty (and potential trauma) as their young minds are being molded. (3/5)
#3 Most orphans around the world are children of color. The majority of U.S. foster children are kids of color. In some states, as many as 50% of foster kids are Black. Don’t shame white multiracial adoptive parents if you ain’t adopting, fostering, or helping others do it. (4/5)
#4 Bottom line.We need more foster & adoptive families of color. We also need more foster & adoptive families overall. We need more family reunification support. With over 300,000 foster kids & millions of orphans worldwide, this problem is HUGE. Stop shaming & do something.(5/5)
