This is just a general thing because I continue seeing it a lot - but can we try to refrain from using ableism to insult ppl? A thread. 1/6

This includes (but is not limited to):

* calling someone stupid/dumb/moronic/etc.
* saying spazz or spastic to imply something negative
*implying psychological problems
- (this includes things like sociopathy or psychopathy if you're not using them in their correct medical context btw)
* implying drug, drinking or other addiction issues
* using words like lame, blind, deaf, etc. as insults

2/6
* saying stuff like "not right in the head"
* using someone's actual/perceived diagnoses against them
* implying that someone needs or is on government benefits in a derogatory way
* obvious ableist slurs like the r word
* "short bus" or "special" type comments
* fat shaming

This is actually a short list of stuff I see a lot but there is so much more and it can be really difficult for ppl with disabilities, health conditions, mental illnesses, learning disabilities, etc. to see all the time on top of the more explicit ableism we have to deal w.

It doesn't matter if you're using those things to insult someone you hate, if you're using them to insult someone with an actual disability or condition or not, or what your good intentions might be.

Please share this thread and add to the list with other bothersome things.

Lastly, I want to add - we don't know what we don't know, so this isn't a condemnation if you've ever done these things. I've done a lot of these things. Some even recently.

My ask is just to be conscious of the language we use and to keep learning and doing better. Thanks!
