born to die was an alternative pop album with a blend of hip hop beats and string instruments with some elements reminiscent of the 1950’s. this album’s lyrics mostly are about love, sex, and drugs, and she sang in a lower tone throughout most of the album.

ultraviolence is a rock/psychedelic rock album. lana’s previous album was alt pop, so her sound changed almost completely. lana continued singing in a lower tone, but hit notes much higher. the lyrics on this album touched upon abusive relationships, lots of sex, and drugs

honeymoon is a dream pop/jazz album. this album was full of cinematic strings and lana’s vocals were softer and more emotional. the choruses were grand and the overall tone is much happier than her last two. the lyrics were mostly about a lover, being left and lied to, and drugs.

lust for life is an indie pop/trip hop album. this album is packed with bass and pop instrumentals. this album has a wide variety of featured artists. this was a very political album. the lyrics on this album are mostly about her old relationships, drugs, and politics.

norman fucking rockwell is a folk rock/baroque pop album. this album is packed with piano, strings, guitar, and some pop instrumentals. this is lana’s most mature and critically acclaimed album to date, containing lyrics about her growth, politics, being in love, and being hurt.

chemtrails over the country club (unreleased). lana has said in an interview that it is a folk (and possibly country) album. it is said that she will feature a song of herself screaming her head off and lyrics will touch upon feminism, politics, and love. (cover is not confirmed)

lana del rey also released a poetry audiobook titled “violet bent backwards over the grass” where she reads her poems aloud over soft instruments.

in conclusion, lana has experimented with many sounds and genres unlike other artists that you may hear about today. im not saying that other artists of today havent experimented, but not on the same level as lana.
