After an unsuccessful attempt of hand-holding its time for Angrej to explain his friend what ”sacha pyaar“ means. Aslam-Angrej‘s friendship was so pure, something which made me connect to this movie more.
Os zamane vich if you wanted to get marry early, bas puthiya sidhiya harkatan kardo, your parents will get you hitch. Also, Angrej di bebe is another iconic character of this movie.
Telling your parents about your love life, explained in 4 pictures. Either you will land up on the bed or one of your parent https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😹" title="Katzengesicht mit Freudentränen" aria-label="Emoji: Katzengesicht mit Freudentränen">”Ve tainu loka diya theeyan pena naal aah kuj karde hoye sharam nahi aai“
Kurta Suha is my the FAVORITE song. I have already told my cousins to play this at my maiyan https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😌" title="Erleichtertes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Erleichtertes Gesicht"> because meri chadh ke jaan jaani, yaar ne kholiya pyaar da buha.
Maddo chose Radio, I mean Hakam over Angrej. Maddo was materialistic asf https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😔" title="Nachdenkliches Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Nachdenkliches Gesicht"> she wanted ghodiya, laveria and ittan vali kothi.
Sache pyaar di kadar nahi.
I used to hear stories from my nanni how weddings were like in Punjab before partition. thanks to this movie we get to re-live it. While watching this movie I actually felt like attending a wedding in 1942s.
When I was watching this movie for the first time,I was so into it that I forgot Sargun di entry te hoi nahi. Finally she entered in the 2nd half, this was her debut movie too, she nailed it and how. If Angrej was heart of this movie, then Dhan Kaur was heart beat of this movie.
First meeting of Angrej and Dhan Kaur.
Dhan Kaur di boli munde de dil te jaake vaaji. He literally called out his mother for ”gheesi“ https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😭" title="Laut schreiendes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Laut schreiendes Gesicht"> Apni maa naal eda kon karda lmao
Them eating ladoos and having small talk https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="♥️" title="Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Herz"> ”Tariyan vaal banda odon hi chaakda jado dharti te kuj gawa giya hove”

Also eh scene dekh ke mainu pinda de viaah yaad aa gaye, we all know this iconic room jithe saari mithai da dher laga hunda, literally pahad banake rakhe hunde https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤤" title="Sabberndes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Sabberndes Gesicht">
Baraat time. Punjab vich destination weddings hundia c before they were a trend https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😁" title="Grinsendes Gesicht mit lächelnden Augen" aria-label="Emoji: Grinsendes Gesicht mit lächelnden Augen">Just posting these pics to appreciate the whole setup. Look at the details: manjhe, kache ghar, costumes, the decoration they really made it look like a 1942 de vele da viaah vala ghar https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="♥️" title="Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Herz">
Tuna ek kam kar, rola https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😹" title="Katzengesicht mit Freudentränen" aria-label="Emoji: Katzengesicht mit Freudentränen">
Tappe: the most iconic song of this movie. I loved the way, whole situation was described through lyrics. It was a delight to see Ammy and Amrinder singing and performing so effortlessly. I watched this movie in a theater and the whole theater was pumped up after this song.https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🙌" title="Raising hands" aria-label="Emoji: Raising hands">
Buzdil te oh hunda, jehra kudi de dil vich pyaar jagave par ohdi nibhon di niyat naa hove https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✨" title="Funken" aria-label="Emoji: Funken"> Their chemistry in this scene was fire https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🔥" title="Feuer" aria-label="Emoji: Feuer">
Mudke vekhe naa Heer nu Ranjha
Jinda Mahi ishq da rog avala jis nu lage te oh fir jhala.
Pyaar kita v dil naal janda, te jeetiya v.
Angrej changed himself for Mado but Mado loved him after he changed himself.
Ehsas kraya ruhaniyat da
Seene te lgge fattan ne
Angrej realizing his love for Dhan Kaur and parallely removing the fake personality which he wore for Mado. This scene is aesthetically so pleasing.
In those times before proposing a girl pehla gharde manane pende. Obviously Bebe had to overreact. ”Ek hor, ve main ehda naam Angrej ki rakhta eh te angrezan vaale kam karan lag pia“
Another reason to love this movie, they stucked with the reality of that era. You need to ask the parents first, Angrej standing up for his love after finding out that Dhan may have to marry Hakam has my whole heart. He had nothing to offer but his love and respect for Dhan Kaur
Ofcourse, its a happy ending. Angrej movie is special for punjabi cinema because Amrinder Gill and his team tried something which no one ever tried, even in Bollywood. Most of the movies made about pre-partition era are tragic or sad.
The movie showed Punjab of pre-partition with a different lense: lively, happy and colorful. The small details in this movies are so appreciation worthy. My Nanni watch this movie whenever she miss her village which is now in east Punjab.
Her childhood is left back in that Punjab and this movie helps her to re-visit that part of her life again. Amrinder Gill needs more appreciation for trying something different and giving Punjabi cinema a new direction.
