merlin a lot of flaws. we know that. we’ve pointed out the shows inconsistent writing more times than i can count. but even with all that, merlin is still a show people are allowed to genuinely enjoy and find comfort/inspiration in. here’s what i want to say abt the post! +
yeah! bbc merlin is family friendly, but the fact that it is doesn’t make it lesser or childish. atla and the mcu are both loved by an audience w/ a large age range while being family friendly. you should not need to watch media with explicit and nsfw themes to be an adult. +
it’s not cool to make fun of people who create edits for the show! editors put a lot of work and effort into videos for free! there are also a lot of emotional moments in merlin, so i’m not exactly sure why having “serious edits” is out of the question (?) +
for example this isn’t my favorite edit, but its one where i included more emotionally driven scenes from the show. since there are serious moments so likewise there’s going to be serious edits sometimes!
it’s also just mean to make fun a fancam that isn’t harmful at all. lgbt hcs are an interpretation of the show! you don’t have to agree w them, but tearing them down a very positive lgbt+ edit is reminiscent to me of some of the lesbophobic ccs merlin twt is getting.
what i’m getting at is it’s okay not to love bbc merlin — it’s funky at times and not for everyone. i actually like reading critiques of the show! however, what’s not okay to me is pointing at people who like it and call them childish and rip on unproblematic fan work.
anyway, that’s my take, but i think a lot of people on merlin twt have said something similar! i understand the person does like the show, but to me not as much a critique of the show, but a critique on people that do like it (which includes me) so i wanted to talk about it.
here’s the content of the tweet, i blotted out their user because i don’t want to send more people over to comment or threaten them in case that’s a thing that happens!
