Moya on Rafa's preparation in last 7 months: "More than recovering his tennis or fitness, the most complicated has been to recover his head. His head wasn't ready. It was a difficult situation for all the things that were happening in the world, more than for not playing matches" https://twitter.com/Rafael_Plaza/status/1310258882913107970
Moya: "So, we gave priority to his head, to play when he was feeling comfortable. Some days we were playing 5min, others 1h, others nothing... that was the priority at the beginning when we didn't have a clear date to come back. As soon as we had a return date, we demanded more"
Moya: "Then we had a plan to follow. Obviously, Rafa wasn't ready to play a tournament 4 months ago, neither 2 months ago. When he's had a date to play, he's arrived well. With doubts, but well."
Moya on the effect this long inactivity has had on Rafa: "He's had pains, but we knew there would be pains. We've had to stop some days because of it, but nothing serious. The things that have happened during these months are the usual things for a professional tennis player."
Moya: "During the past month or month & a half, when Rafa's been focused on the coming tournament [Rome], he's worked at 100%. We've been open to do the things he felt like doing & I think we've got it."
Moya: "He'd had irregular practice sessions, which is normal after not playing for so long. Andujar & Dimitrov were at the RNA & were the first serious tests. Some days he trained very well & the following day it was difficult for him, which is normal after not competing for long"
Moya: "The progression has been slow, step by step, both in tennis & fitness. We've given priority to resting & to doing different things. He's ready, but lacks matches. He now needs continuity in playing several matches."
Moya: "RG is in a very special place in Rafa's calendar. This year the room for error is smaller. No MC, BCN or MAD to build on. We're going to focus on the things we can control, but being aware that the situation isn't normal at all."
