New: NYC principals union just held a vote of no confidence in de Blasio over school reopening. The union is asking the state education department to intervene, and for the mayor to give over control of NYC schools to the Department of Education. What a mess
Statement from the union here. Of course, UFT& #39;s absence here is very conspicuous. Tensions between the two unions now undeniable, whether or not their leaders want to acknowledge.
Principals have been raising alarms about school reopening for months. They have had real concerns about safety, but agreements between the city and the UFT have created a logistical nightmare for which there does not seem to be a clear resolution. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/25/nyregion/all-eyes-are-on-new-york-can-it-pull-off-hybrid-learning-in-schools.html">https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/2...

Principals are *not* threatening to strike, and will report to schools on Tuesday, union says.
What does this mean? The principals union wants the state to take over control of city schools. Today& #39;s announcement does not mean that schools wont open this week, but it certainly makes it less likely that reopening will proceed as planned.
