In higher ed, I’m seeing so many white led institutions (which is most of them) falling over themselves with these performative gestures and meaningless proclamations of racial solidarity.....
I also see them TORTURING the Black women working in them 1/

You do not care about Black women if you’re continuing to demand absurd amounts of productivity while she watches her brothers and sisters get shot in the streets and villified for existing. 2/
You do not care about Black women if you berate her for not producing at a time when she has THE LEAST bandwidth to do the 1,000,000 you are unrealistically asking her to do. 3/
You do not care about Black women if you continue to use us as shields against your racism, misogyny, misogynoir. We are not your Black friends; we are not your political shields; we are not your mask of color. 4/
You do not care about Black women if your inability to lead turns into you gaslighting her, discounting her concerns, ignoring her pain, and continuing to tell her she is not the fuck enough when she continues to show up despite her need to heal, to live, to love. 5/
You do not care about Black women if you refuse to introspect and acknowledge your racism and sexism. If you refuse to do the work to make yourself, your institutional culture, and your leadership better, you are actually the problem. 6/
And it’s the super liberal whites with perhaps one other marginalized identity that are the worst because they think that that one dimension of oppression is equal to the weight Black women carry day in and day out. 7/
Being white and queer, or white and grew up poor, or white and [insert ism] does not negate your capacity to, and the ease with which you, continue to oppress Black women. And nobody around you seems to be telling you this; or, if they are, you’re not listening 8/
For Black men in positions of power in these institutions, if you out here cosigning white leadership’s denigration of Black women for your own advancement, you’re trash and I mean it and I don’t care how you feel about it. 9/
I an so tired of seeing Black women I love, admire, respect give EVERYTHING to their work and passion and have that work, that effort, being taken for granted - especially now.
And if you lead and higher ed institution and you feel some type of way about what I’m saying....10/

You. Literally. Are. The. Problem.
We out here DYING - physically, emotionally, spiritually - and you telling us to prioritize better.
We out here breaking down on panels and your messages of support center YOU.

Personally, I’m not standing for it anymore. I am my sister’s keeper and my life, my success, is inextricably linked with hers.
Tread the fuck lightly and check yourselves. /fin
