THREAD: What to do if you receive a notification that says "Possible COVID-19 Exposure" after downloading the @NHSCOVID19APP 👇. 1/7
At least once per day (usually several times), your phone will receive a file containing all of the device keys of people that have tested positive that day.
If you have been in contact with one of these people you will receive the following notification from Apple (or similar from google.)
Apple/Google will then pass this information on to the NHS COVID-19 app on your phone which will use an algorithm to determine how much virus you could have been exposed to. As explained in Apple docs here 👇
In doing so, this avoids everyone who passes someone in the street, later determined to be COVID positive, from having to self isolate. Only those who have high-risk encounters will be told to self-isolate by the app.
So in summary, it is not the government's app asking you self isolate. You have been in contact with someone with COVID but it may have only been for a very short period of time. If you do need to self isolate the app will tell you when & how long for. RT for awareness.
If you do get one of these notifications you should check the @NHSCOVID19app for more info. If there are any actions required of you they will be recorded in the app, if not then it was a low risk encounter. https://faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article/KA-01252/en-us?parentid=CAT-01029&rootid=
This is what it looks like on android if you are asked to self-isolate. Also when you go into the app you will be shown a countdown until you can stop self-isolating.
