Couldn't fall asleep until 3:30 last night. 😼

In addition to all the ☕ I'm blasting this right now to try to match the little man's energy level.

This is blistering and features a killer segue I won't spoil if you haven't heard it. #phish https://relisten.net/phish/1996/11/27/down-with-disease?source=162847
7:30 is just vicious rhythm guitar and Trey launching out of it will take your breath away. This is truly unreal. #phish
Floor drops out around 11:30 but it feels ominous because you know they are about to drop the hammer. #phish
I'm certainly not a guitar expert but the only player I can think of that can switch back and forth from driving rhythm guitar to explosive melodic playing so effortlessly is Jimi. #phish
I distinctly have a random memory of listening to this while walking around some random Japanese town in Hokkaido before a show like 10 years ago. Weird how random musical memories implant themselves like that.
This JJLC is only 60 bom and the groove is leaning waaaaaaay back. Hell of a pocket. #phish
JJLC's from Fall '96 are a phenomenal display of musicianship from the entire band, especially during Trey's solos.

Rock bands don't play with that kind of dynamic contrast in arenas. And the ability to crescendo as a unit for five full minutes is very impressive. #phish
But the really hard part is that during that entire, massively drawn out push forward dynamically the groove and feel goes *nowhere*. Still leaning way back. Just filthy.

That's next level shit. #phish
It is very difficult to change dynamics a lot without changing other things. Louder usually means heavier + frequently means rushing (when it's a slower groove.) Softer means less articulation and accents. Both usually mean less flow. But listen to this JJLC crescendo... #phish
Nothing changed but the dynamics and the level of urgency. Articulations stay the same. Weight stays the same. Groove doesn't lean forward even an inch. And they all do it as one.

That takes a ton of chops and mental focus. Both individual practice and collective rehearsal.
After skipping the Mule of course the Tweezer is frantic and heavy and demonic and then segues back into Disease and this band is the greatest there ever was. #phish
