On Tuesday I saw a respiratory consultant and paid £250 for 45 minutes of his time because in the last 5.5 months of my #LongCovid battle I have not been seen my GP for a f2f appointment. Instead I have spoken to them over the phone on 12 separate occasions 1/...
He confirmed I have post-Covid Syndrome. My remaining main 3 issues are SOB, Thoracic pain and fatigue. He said he is seeing a lot of patients who, like me, contracted this virus in March/April and who, like me, are still suffering with SOB, pain and fatigue 2/...
He reassured me that I will get better, it could take another 9 months to a year. I need to keep looking forwards and not backwards. He diagnosed me with a breathing pattern disorder, again which is something he is seeing a lot of in post-Covid patients now. 3/...
He said that post-Covid syndrome is a serious and debilitating illness and it is going to take months and months to recover from. But he was adamant I will recover from it. I could have kissed him! 4/...
He has prescribed Gabapentin. Apparently Covid can affect the nerves and he thinks this is what is causing the pain and SOB. This is a long-term medication but he has seen it working well in a lot of post-Covid patients he is treating. 5/...
He carried out a thorough examination and a peak flow reading. Good news - my chest is clear and he couldn’t hear any crackles where the paramedics and A&E had heard some in early August so the pleurisy has finally gone, which is good. 6/...
I asked about heart inflammation-he said it’s common as Covid, altho contracted via the respiratory system, is vascular but in every patient he is seeing who had heart inflammation they all made a full recovery so he thinks the inflammation is temporary & reversible 7/...
So good news,I’d prepared myself for much worse. #LongCovid is real & there are doctors out there who believe patients and treat them with compassion. We’ve just got to keep fighting. I’ll report back on the Gabapentin but nerve damage is worth mentioning when you speak to a GP.
