Day 27 of #CraniofacialAcceptanceMonth. I wanted to bring up a big frustrations of having a facial difference.

A thread

1) Nothing is ever made for you. Nothing ever fits my head “normally” and in some cases comfortably. I also have a hard time saying certain words.
2) Trying to find eyeglasses is a nightmare. I don’t get much of a choice. Doesn’t matter how much they cost or what they look like. The first pair that kind of works is what I’m stuck with. I’ve been lucky so far. I’ve liked the one or two options I’ve had.
3) More often than not I only have one option. I’m not kidding. I’ve had to go to 10+ places before and found ZERO that fits me. Most recently the sunglasses I got the frames were over $250. I’d NEVER spend that given any other choice. I also can’t go online.
4) My next frustration is headphones. If you look at the pic I posted the other day you will notice the headphones I am wearing are off one ear. That’s because they don’t fit right. Also without a hat they are too big. I need a new pair but nice ones are $$! Cheap do NOT fit me.
5) Random things like helmets, face mask, toothbrushes, headbands etc I always have to opt for infant - child size. Current toothbrush has Piglet on it which I’m not mad at. Lol
If it has to go on my head or face it’s a pain in the butt to source them.
6) facial recognition things are another frustration. Trying to set up my iPhone with FaceID seems like it would be an easy task. I assure you it wasn’t I wanted to throw the damn thing. Then there are the animated emojis. They do not really see me.
7) I get that these things don’t fully matter, but they make me feel other, excluded, like my face is so alien and odd that I don’t get these things because of it.
8) Lastly & probably the biggest source of frustration is the medical world. Between not being able to find a dentist, to having a hard time just getting a normal lung function test you realize just how different I am. I don’t fit anywhere.
9) please note I’m again not fishing for sympathy or solutions. This thread is about educating. Being different or having disabilities is dang expensive and just plain hard. A lot of times unfair.
