I'm a teacher. I'm voting yes on the cannabis referendum. I don't think it is harmless but I think the yes option is the best harm minimisation option.
Reasoning:
1. I don't think cannabis is a gateway drug but I think the current sellers often have access to other drugs. Reducing contacts may reduce harm of other drugs.
2. I think the current application of the law is more likely to criminalise people from more disadvantaged backgrounds. Pretty sure the stats show this.
3. Regulation seems like the majority of users would be accessing a safer product.
4. Rather than untaxed income a tax seems sensible.
I don't want to use cannabis. Not my thing. But I do have the opportunity occasional drink - I don't see how my drug of choice, probably more harmful, should be legal while someone else's should be prohibited.
