<to reassure families & students>. I am an academic Warden overseeing a 1500 bed hall @livuni There is much low-information hysteria around the Halls experience. Here, Students are in households of 6, sharing kitchen / living space. https://twitter.com/liamyoung/status/1309916509876092928
Only difference from a normal year is that they cannot socialise with other households indoors (like everyone else) and the social / study spaces are shut. Last night most went to pub and were home by 10 thanks to curfew. I just saw a group of 6 off for a run. The gym is open
They are well supported by the residential support team who drop in every week for a chat, and there is 24hr helpline for advice, support, for a friendly chat. 24 hr patrols, CCTV and card swipe logs allow us to monitor and deal with unauthorised gatherings
The university has its own test, track and trace process. In Halls we have a comprehensive set of processes to support those with positive diagnosis; those self isolating; and those around them. Takeaways / shopping deliveries will delivered to their flat door if need be
Our Halls Life team are running as many virtual social events / household competitions as possible; outdoor sport is going on. All students will have some F2F teaching. My Yr1 engineers will have 5-10 hrs, varying each week.
The choice is remain cooped up at home with your family as you have been since March. Or go to Uni, meet new friends, start your course and embark on the next stage of your life.
(There will of course be local variations, differences between University and private halls, and things might change according to national guidance.)
