Very occasionally I’ll have a tweet about women’s football that will go viral or attract a lot of attention and that obviously means it’ll draw a lot of responses. What amazes me is how tolerated misogyny is as a form of expression or abuse.
As a guy I’m not subjected to it so I’m sure there are women who will say they’re not surprised at all. I guess I don’t understand why misogyny is so tolerated as a form of prejudice. People seem to feel so comfortable expressing it and it doesn’t seem to generate much pushback.
Then again, I’m not really sure how to deal with it when it crops up in my mentions. My instinct is to ignore it cos I CBA to argue with dickheads all day. I am certain this is a dilemma women on this platform (and generally) experience constantly and that’s just...shit isn’t it?
(Which is also not to mention the very genuine fear of reprisal / violence that goes with that dilemma).
