On this day on 2014, after the glammer of the World Cup, I took a bus to Mesquita to watch the fabulous America Football Club (RJ) take on Volta Redonda in the Copa Rio. @AmericaRJ 5 - 0 @voltaredonda
I went on me tod and it was one of my best footy days out ever. Lovely crowd, loads of families, lots of happy faces.
However, the bus home was micey as fuck. Went through some really notorious favelas - most notably São João de Meriti. Was over the moon I& #39;d bought an América shirt - thought it helped me blend in! Weird little gringo that I was

On a side note - the scoreboard was donated from the Maracanã after one of its refits, as were the seats in the main stand, iirc.
