12 practical tips to improve your copywriting skills

1 Make an outline

Prepare a detailed outline of you are about to write

before even writing a word
2 Create powerful headline and sub-headlines

Get them down before preparing the body copy
3 Write your first draft as quickly as possible

Write it without worrying about typos, grammar, punctuation
4 Leave a week or two for the editing

The more time you have for ediing the better
5 Eliminate each and every unnecessary word

Start editing by eliminating words that doesnt add to readability

This includes most adjectives and adverbs
6 Start strong, finish strong

Re-write your first sentence and your last paragraph
7 use a single idea per sentence

Dont confuse your reader with 2-3 or ideas in one sentence

Exception is the headline

In the headline you can use up to 3 ideas
8 Make provokative promises

Make sure to prove them with supporting facts
9 Use mostly short words

75% should be 5 letters or less
10 Use short sentences

75% should be 17 words or less
11 Use short paragraphs

75% should be 5 sentences or less

Vary the length of each paragraph
12 Let your work breathe between rewrites

Let your copy to rest at for a day before you rewrite
