I'm seeing a lot of arguments along the lines of "Dems promoted all these Catholics so they can't be anti-Catholic." IMO this is a dangerous argument bec it distinguishes between "good" and "bad" Catholics. I.e. You'll be accepted provided you're only a certain *kind* of Catholic

This used to be (and might still be) an issue for Jews and the expectation of assimilation. I.e. Jews are fine, just not be *too* Jewish.

Accepting only Catholics who reject the papal edicts you don't like is like only accepting Jews who ignore the halakhot you don't like.

This isn't a matter of who you should or shouldn't accept, but a request to own one's standards honestly.
