Representation. A short thread.

Identity representation doesn’t happen enough, but because of that, we forget that identity representation ISN’T enough. People who share our identity and represent us also need to have values that spur action to uplift us.

Daniel Cameron is a Black man, and provides identity representation. But his actions uphold white supremacy and through them he espouses anti-Blackness. His identity is not enough because his values spur actions that actively oppress the people he represents. @kyoag

Amy Coney Barrett is a woman, and provides identity representation. But her actions uphold patriarchal society and through them she espouses anti-feminism. Her identity is not enough because her values spur actions that actively oppress the people she represents.

Representation matters. And who represents you matters.
