I’ve decided I’m going to make an {ongoing} thread of my all-time favorite artists
[very important preface that this list isn’t in any particular order and it’s not comprehensive]
1. Joseph Lee ( @joeyunlee)
2. Jason Decaires Taylor creates sculptures that he puts IN THE ACTUAL OCEAN to build underwater museums. No, for real. U can visit. The sculptures are made of mineral materials that cause coral to grow on them when placed in the ocean & offset the effects of climate change.
3. Tanya Shatseva
4. Alexa Meade ( @AlexaMeadeArt)

Ok so Alexa is an installation artist who paints on real people & real objects using colorful, painterly strokes to create the visual illusion of a 2-dimensional scene. You might have to look through the pics to get it but it will blow your mind.
5. Lunaccy ( @lunnaccy)
6. Kehinde Wiley.

Wiley recreates iconic scenes from traditional Rococo/Renaissance art, but he replaces the subjects of the original works with contemporary black men. So here’s why his work is so important and why he gets two tweets in this thread: (1/2)
By giving black people a chance to visually inhabit spaces that have been historically designated for white people, Kehinde Wiley not only draws attention to historical limitations placed on black identity, but he creates a visual space free of racial hierarchies & oppression🙌🏽
7. Irina Cumberland

[These are paintings, not photos.] Irina creates jaw-dropping, photorealistic paintings of water.
8. Tatsuya Tanaka is an artist who uses conventional household items as props to build miniature worlds. The idea is that he manipulates scale in a way that prompts the viewer to look at everyday objects & activities from a new perspective and his works are weirdly satisfying lol
9. Alexandra Lavesseur
10. Ok not to be dramatic but this dude Seb Park is essentially the Warhol of our Era. Just like Warhol & Lichtenstein chose to paint what represented Modern America in their time, Seb paints what he believes represents consumerism & our modern world in the context of technology.
11. Kelogsloops ( @kelogsloops)
12. Brett Smith

Ok hold onto your hats for this one: photographer Brett Smith builds underwater sets which he then submerges in a pool in his OWN FRIGGING BACKYARD to take these breathtaking (literally), dreamy shots
13. Alex Garant ( @alexgarantart)
14. All Drawn ( @alldrawn)
You can follow @hannahghafary.
