My boyfriend & I checked into our vacation rental and are convinced we are now in a horror movie.

-the house we rented is on a deserted 90-acre ranch in the desert
-there is no cell reception
-the groundskeeper told us he would lock the driveway gate behind him when he left

Even more intriguing, everywhere on the property we see this weird symbol.

(NOTE: All of this is real. I am not making this up.)
/2
This symbol is painted and carved EVERYWHERE, all around the property.
/3
If we need help, the closest neighbors...do not appear to be home.

/4
There’s a friendly looking outdoor sculpture not far from our rental home's front door.

Just a normal weekend getaway. Nothing unusual here.

(Note the symbol again.)

/5
What’s notable about this property is that everywhere you look, there are interesting features. Like abandoned railroad cars.

/6
Or whimsical sculptures.

/7
There’s even a sort of homemade pyramid about a quarter-mile walk from the house.

/8
I WONDER WHAT’S INSIDE.

/9
Oh. Oh, I see.

/10
All these pictures are real, btw. There's wifi in the house, & to be fair, owners *did* mention there were "outdoor sculptures."

They also said there are solar lights if we want to check them out at night!

Boyfriend keeps saying we should rewatch “Midsommar” tonight.

/11
LET’S TALK ABOUT THE HOUSE.

The owners (did I mention they seemed eccentric?) said in their email it was full of original art.

This includes a coffin-shaped sculpture inside the front door, and a charming little painting.

/12
There’s also an organ. It's almost like this space is sometimes used for religious services or something.

/13
I must admit, the bathroom is pretty cool.

And who’s this fellow above the sink?

/14
I didn’t realize it at first, but boyfriend has helpfully pointed out that the symbol that appears all over the grounds is also prominently displayed in many places inside the house.

I don’t think it’s just the ranch’s brand. Seems to have some deeper meaning.

/16
The problem with the desert at night is that you can hear sooo much farther than you can see. The footsteps on gravel might be half a mile away, but you can barely see ten feet into the dark.

/16
K, it’s dark now, and the house looks very pretty at night.

Lots of stars in the sky.

Boyfriend wants me to get off Twitter. We’re going to take a bath & watch a horror movie or two. (Please reply with recommendations!)

I’ll post more in the morning if I can.
