!. It's important to see that the GOP is trying to normalize the idea that a presidential election will be decided by the Supreme Court - and to reject that idea. In the history of the US, the Court has played a meaningful role in only 1 election - Bush/Gore in 2000. https://twitter.com/tedcruz/status/1309731180552630272
2. It's absurd, then, to say that it's "inevitable" that election disputes will reach the Court, since that has almost never happened.
3. The reason Cruz is saying it - just as Lindsey Graham said, earlier this week, that he would accept whatever the Court decided - is to reinforce the narrative that there's going to be something sketchy about this election, requiring the Court to step in.
4. There is no actual reason to think this election will be sketchy. Trump is making that claim because he's worried he's going to lose, and the GOP is talking about the election being thrown to the Court because they don't think he can win at the ballot box.
5. If the system works as it should - as it was designed to - the Supreme Court will come nowhere near this election. And if things go wrong and they do, they still won't be able to decide who becomes president. The American people will.
