While this is only the beginning and we still have a long long way to go to address the housing crisis in Philadelphia before winter sets in this is a serious step forward and creates a very important precedent
Tldr: 50 vacant city-owned houses will be transferred into a community land trust for permanent use as extremely low-income housing ($25,000 and below). They will be managed by local control committees.
Our demand has been clear since day one: PERMANENT HOUSING. And now the city has met it. Camps Teddy and @CampJTD will remain while residents begin the process of transition into these new homes.
However, the fight is not over with these 50 houses. We will continue to pressure the city to transfer more houses to be designated as permanent low-income housing, stabilize our communities and combat the displacement caused by market rate development and gentrification.
