Just curious if there's been a hot take from any US constitutional scholars that appointing more strict constructionists in a time when the federal government is leaning toward fascist authoritarianism is not actually all bad
I mean one of the things that's struck me about the last appointment is that (unlike what Trump hoped, since he knows nothing about the Constitution and expects loyalty at all costs) is that he's sided against the administration on several decisions because of that interpretation
ofc, having a severe imbalance of strict constructionists doesn't do well in curbing state power over voting rights, abortion, and other "progressive" issues, but considering the current existential threat is massive federal overreach it's a mixed blessing atm
...and if the US survives intact beyond the next few years, you're looking at more difficulty down the road.

But right now, who knows if a 'down the road' is even on the table.
