So, it's official. Trump has nominated Amy Coney Barrett to fill the open Supreme Court seat.

Here's a run down on #AmyConeyBarrett from our youth-led Judicial Advocacy Team.
Her beliefs harken back to an era:
- before civil rights
- before women's equality and right to choose
- before our country granted entry to people from all countries and cultures

Her confirmation would undo enormous strides we've made over the past several decades.
As a fundamental matter to our mission and advocacy, her confirmation would also threaten our constitutional right to not be shot.

- She has argued that common-sense background checks would “target” the whole Second Amendment.
- Her extreme disregard for legal precedent means that any existing law that has been ruled constitutional, including nearly every gun law, is now at risk.
- She's been described as an ideological heir to fmr Justice Scalia, who gutted gun legislation before he passed.
She is a "Constitutionalist Originalist", meaning she believes the Constitution should be interpreted as it was written in 1787 [when Black people were legally enslaved and women were denied human rights] and not as it applies to life in modern America.
As an extreme "Originalist," she believes her own views of the Constitution should be able to override the standards of 200 years of rulings that have cemented our constitutional rights.
So, Barrett is a radical conservative who holds discriminatory beliefs, including blocking young people’s access to abortion, and defending racist corporate policies, like segregation in the workplace.

We say this not to scare you, but to show how important it is that we fight.
The courts are not meant to be political institutions, but they have been corrupted by radical conservatives to enact their unpopular, unconstitutional, and deadly agenda on our country.
March For Our Lives, and our friends in the gun violence prevention space, are strong forces. We rapidly develop our strategies based on the needs of the nation, and we're ready to fight for our constitutional right not to be shot.
