Let& #39;s just say that if you want four more years of trump, you either don& #39;t see the troubling signs of authoritarian rule, or you are okay with it, and you are okay with it bc you believe that you will never find yourself on the wrong end of it. That& #39;s privilege, and erroneous.
"I& #39;m a law-abiding citizen. I have nothing to fear under authoritarian rule."
Thing is, under an authoritarian, what is "law" is fluid, at best. Under a demented authoritarian, it& #39;s downright capricious.
What you do lawful today could be unlawful manana.

But what is the thing the law can& #39;t change? Your white skin. So to boil it down, you& #39;re counting on the fact that your being white gives you a permanent protective shield against whatever hell trump rains down on everyone else.
Until he destroys the Social Security you worked your entire life for. Or the healthcare he rips away from you just when you need it. COVID don& #39;t care about your skin color. Neither does cancer or heart disease.
When his Supreme Court rules that, ya know, we think the idea that your gay son can marry the person he loves isn& #39;t so good after all. In fact, we don& #39;t think they should really be equal under the law because, well, they& #39;re "that way."
And Black people? All they have to do is behave the way you do and gratefully accept the indignities that may come their way from time to time in the course of living in the good ole USofA and they& #39;ll be just fine. Because you don& #39;t see color.
After all, they have the same access to the same ballot as you do, right? They don& #39;t like how things go, they can just vote in another government. Except...oh yeah, that authoritarian thing again. That whole "vote out the government" thingy is no longer a given.
You& #39;re completely convinced that there are no need for pesky "checks and balances," even those as fragile as ours have proven to be. Those bad things that happen in other, far less advanced countries couldn& #39;t happen in this America, you tell yourself.
