Story time!

My 1st job was at Yale. I often taught Directed Studies, Yale’s great books course for elite humanities students. Big shot profs from other disciplines sometimes taught the philosophy section.

That’s how I met Tony Kronman, former dean of Yale Law School. https://twitter.com/danimmergluck/status/1309942037714800643
That fall Bush nominated Alito to the court.

Tony, a very famous & respected former dean of the Yale Law School, told me as we walked back to campus from the Whitney Humanities Center, “Sam Alito is a great choice. He’s brilliant and fair. One of the sharpest minds out there...
...I am certain he’ll turn out to be a big surprise for the GOP. Alito is not a political hack. He’s brilliant and loves the law.”

He was really insistent. I remember this so we’ll be sure I freaking wrote it down right afterwards. Tony was so sure. I was relieved!
Folks.

Famous law professors are not good at politics. They appear to think it’s all an intellectual game. Or something.

Anyway Noah Feldman & I rode Metro North home from Yale for a semester in 2004 or 2005. He struck me as a really great guy. But he’s so wrong here.
